Xhorse Multi-Prog ECU, TCU, MCU and EEPROM Programmer (XDMPG0GL)
Read. Write. Clone.
The bench programmer that replaces VVDI Prog and adds batch writing
The Xhorse Multi-Prog is a standalone programmer for reading, writing and cloning engine ECUs and gearbox TCUs in bench and boot mode, plus MCU, EEPROM and FLASH work. Built as the successor to VVDI Prog, it gives ECU repair specialists, locksmiths and tuning workshops one platform for module recovery, cloning and immobiliser data.

What the Xhorse Multi-Prog Does
The Multi-Prog is Xhorse’s dedicated module programmer, made up of a standalone main unit and PC software. It reads, writes and clones engine control units and transmission control units, reads and writes microcontrollers from Renesas, Motorola, NXP and Infineon, and handles EEPROM and FLASH memory. In practical terms it covers the jobs that land on a bench every week: replacing a failed ECU with a used unit, cloning a gearbox controller after water damage, recovering immobiliser data, and pulling a full backup before any tuning or repair work begins.
At Mobile Eco Tuning we work closely with our vendors and run bench programming in our UK HQ workshop every day, supporting a network of more than 800 agents. The Multi-Prog sits in the category of tool that pays for itself through the jobs other workshops turn away. A tuner who can only flash over OBD has to refuse a locked or bricked controller. A workshop with a capable bench and boot programmer takes that job, recovers the unit and keeps the customer.
ECU Coverage in Bench and Boot Mode
Xhorse lists ECU support across Bosch, Continental, Siemens, Marelli, Delphi and Denso families, including VW Bosch MED17 series ECUs, Continental SID208, SID209, SID211 and SID807EVO diesel units, Mercedes-Benz SIM271, and BMW MSD80, MSD81, MSD85, MSD87, MSV80 and MSV90. BMW N13, N20, N55, B38 and TC17X based units are listed, with B48 and B58 ISN reading and direct ISN display on N20 and N55 ECUs. Bosch ECU ISN read and write is supported through the separate Bosch ECU adapter; note that this function is for ISN only, not full cloning.
Understanding the two connection methods matters. Bench mode talks to the controller through its own diagnostic pins with the case closed, so it is quick and non invasive. Boot mode forces the processor into its factory bootloader, which allows full reads of locked or unresponsive units that will not answer a normal bench request. Boot work usually means opening the case and making contact with specific pads, which is exactly where a stable bench setup and careful hands earn their keep. Xhorse publishes and updates a separate supported list for each mode, so always confirm your exact ECU and mode before committing to a job.
Gearbox TCU Cloning
Transmission controllers are a growing share of module repair work, and the Multi-Prog covers the units that fail most often in UK workshops. Listed support includes VW, Audi and Skoda DQ200, DQ250 and VL381, Porsche DL501, Ford and Dodge MPS6 series, Ford DPS6 and DC4, ZF 9HP, BMW DKG and Mercedes-Benz VGS. Cloning a TCU means the replacement unit carries the original adaptations, coding and immobiliser relationship, so the car leaves the workshop driving as it did before the failure rather than needing a dealer visit for matching.
MCU, EEPROM and Immobiliser Work
Beyond engine and gearbox controllers, the Multi-Prog reads and writes a wide range of microcontrollers, with chip families listed including MC9S08, MC68HC(9)12, MC9S12, V850, H8X, R8C and PCF79XX, alongside most common EEPROM chips. This is the foundation of cluster, airbag and immobiliser module work. It is compatible with Xhorse solder free adapters and cables, including the MQB solder free adapters. Binding the Multi-Prog and a full VVDI2 to the same Xhorse app account unlocks the MQB48 NEC35XX function for VAG cluster work.
Why Batch Writing Matters
The defining upgrade over VVDI Prog is factory mode batch programming. VVDI Prog writes a single chip at a time, while the Multi-Prog supports factory usage mode for programming chips in batches. For locksmiths preparing stock, or workshops that regularly produce the same EEPROM or MCU image, this removes the repetitive set up between each chip and cuts bench time significantly.
Hardware Built for Reliable Writes
Inside, the Multi-Prog runs Linux on a ZYNQ7020 dual core Cortex A9 processor paired with an FPGA, backed by two 256M DDR memory modules and 64M of NOR flash. The FPGA handles the timing sensitive signalling that boot and MCU protocols demand, which is where weaker programmers drop connections mid read. A 3.5 inch display gives status at the unit itself, and firmware updates are handled by built in update software so new ECU and chip support arrives without a separate tool. Connection to the PC is by USB or RJ45 network cable.
Bench and boot mode access to Bosch, Continental, Siemens, Marelli, Delphi and Denso families, including MED17, SID series and BMW MSD and MSV units.
DQ200, DQ250, VL381, DL501, MPS6, DPS6, DC4, ZF 9HP, BMW DKG and Mercedes VGS controllers, cloned with adaptations intact.
BMW B48 and B58 ISN reading, direct ISN display on N20 and N55, and Bosch ISN read and write with the separate Bosch ECU adapter.
Renesas, Motorola, NXP and Infineon microcontrollers plus EEPROM and FLASH, the backbone of cluster and immobiliser module repair.
Program chips in batches rather than one at a time, the key capability VVDI Prog does not offer.
Works with Xhorse solder free adapters and cables, including MQB adapters, with built in firmware updates for new coverage.

Most bricked modules we see on the bench are not caused by the programmer at all. They come from voltage sag during a long boot read or write. Power the unit from its correct 15V supply rather than a laptop USB port, keep the laptop on mains, and never run a boot write from a battery charger. Before any clone or write, save the full read twice to separate storage and compare the two files byte for byte. If they differ, the connection is unstable and the second read is telling you so. Fix the contact first, because a write built on a bad read can leave you with an unrecoverable controller and an unhappy customer.
